Baby fell down – suspended sentence for mother

A four-month-old girl falls out of a window – and dies. The young mother is charged with attempted murder. Now the verdict has been passed.

Auerbach / Zwickau – After a baby fell out of the window of a residential building in Auerbach (Saxony), the mother was sentenced to a suspended sentence.

The Zwickau district court found her guilty of negligent bodily harm and imposed a six-month prison sentence, suspended on probation. The “Free Press” initially reported on the judgment on the first day of the hearing.

The 23-year-old was originally on trial for attempted murder. The prosecution had accused her of holding the four-month-old girl out of the window and dropping it on that day in June 2020 “out of anger and annoyance”. Previously, there should have been a loud dispute over the payment of 35 euros. In court, however, the woman had asserted through her lawyer: “It was an accident.” She had become sick and the child slipped out of her hands.

The baby was reportedly hit a concrete sidewalk and suffered multiple fractures, a concussion, an abdominal trauma and a kidney contusion.

Originally, further appointments were planned for the court case in October. However, one of the main witnesses was not available to the court, so it pronounced its verdict on Thursday. The decision is not yet final. The prosecutor had pleaded for serious assault and two and a half years in prison. dpa
