The Italian, the first pursuer of Fabio Quartararo in the fight for the MotoGP crown, will start first for the fifth time so far this year and will lead a front row of the grid monopolized by Ducati.
At his side will be Jack Miller, his partner in the official formation of Borgo Panigale, while the third to do so will be Enea Bastianini, substitute for the Australian in the red motorcycle workshop with a view to 2023.
Aleix Espargaró, who has three points less than Bagnaia and who is 33 behind the Devil, saved the furniture in a very remarkable way after being involved in the first qualifying sieve (Q1), and will command the second row from the fourth square.
Johann Zarco will start the fifth, just ahead of Quartararo, who will be the sixth. Things are complicated for the current champion , given the difficulties to overtake that his Yamaha presents in a scenario in which the lack of chicha from his propellant places him in a most compromised situation.
Marco Bezzecchi finished with the seventh fastest time, already seven tenths behind Bagnaia, while the eighth fastest lap went to Jorge Martín. The man from Madrid was one thousandth ahead of Alex Rins, while Brad Binder closed the top ten.
In his comeback after undergoing the fourth operation on his right humerus, Marc Márquez was unable to make it past the Q1 cutoff as he was hampered by a yellow flag that prevented him from seeking one last fast lap attempt, and he will start 13th. Maverick Viñales will start 16th after suffering his first crash as an Aprilia rider.
