Bagnaia: "In Le Mans I learned that sometimes it is better to brake a little earlier"

Pecco Bagnaia arrives at his home race as the headliner for Ducati, but in an internecine battle with one of the Bologna house satellite riders, Enea Bastiani, with whom he clearly lost the pulse two weeks ago at Le Mans.

Bagnaia led the French race with authority, but Bastiani was on the lookout until he overtook him in the final part, the two getting into a battle that ended with Pecco on the ground and losing many points overall.

“Sometimes you can make mistakes, mine was too big, but things are like that, I have had time at home to think about it and I hope to redeem myself at Mugello,” Bagnaia explained on Thursday in the run-up to the Italian Grand Prix.

“I have learned that sometimes it is better to brake sooner than to rush to the end, to stay calm in some situations,” he added when asked if he had taken anything positive from it. “I learned my lesson.”

Mugello was not a favorable scenario for the Italian last year.

“Last year I was good at the weekend until Sunday came, which was one of the worst of the year 2021. Let’s see how we do this year. Above all I want to try to have fun this weekend”.

In his race to recover the 46 points that currently separate him from Fabio Quartararo, the leader of the World Championship, Pecco read the removal of the Finnish Grand Prix from the MotoGP calendar as a negative point.

“We have less chance of recovering or losing points, but if they have decided not to go it is because they are not ready now to host a MotoGP race, in any case it will be held there next year,” he said somewhat laconically.

Before reaching Mugello, Pecco could once again be seen training on a street bike without much preparation at Misano.

“Training with the street bike gives me resistance in the riding, when I go out to ride it’s like going to the gym, even better, because I improve physically and I have fun riding on a circuit like Misano that I like a lot”, settled the one from Turin.
