Bastianini says he is not ready to challenge for the MotoGP title

Enea Bastianini surprised everyone at the start of the season by winning her first MotoGP race in Qatar. However, what could be taken for granted was confirmed doubly, as Enea also climbed to the top of the podium at the GP of the Americas and the French GP.

The Italian, who led the championship in the first few races, surprised everyone and forced Ducati to reconsider its plan to raise Jorge Martín to the official team in 2023. It is still unknown who Pecco Bagnaia’s teammate will be and the position is still up for grabs. game between Martin and Bastianini.

By positioning himself as a contender for the title, he has also consolidated his position at the Borgo Panigale factory, which has already reserved official equipment for him for next year, regardless of the team he races for.

However, several errors in qualifying and the race have cost Bastianini dearly, who is now fifth in the general classification, 67 points behind Fabio Quartararo. His victories have made him forget that this is his second season in the premier class and that he still lacks experience.

The Italian was realistic about his situation, and made no secret of his skepticism about his ability to win the title this season:

“I don’t know if I can be world champion this year. I have to work to get to that level, because at the moment I’m not as fast as the drivers who lead this category. I know my potential, but this season I don’t feel ready to win the title. Next year we can get more victories”.

The reason is obviously his lack of experience. “I still find it hard to find solutions in difficult situations. I often take too long, I get nervous, so that’s something I have to work on for the future,” he added. “In the first part of the season I think I was also tired, with less energy, and maybe I could feel it on the straights as well. I think now I know how to better face this second part.”

After returning relaxed from his summer break, Bastianini wants to reverse the trend with which he ended the first half of the season and learn from his mistakes: “It’s important for me to stay focused, but also not to expend too much energy in all the weekend sessions. week, because the first part of the championship was positive, but I was also a bit tired. I’m glad I recharged my batteries during the break. Now we’ll see what the second half of the year will be like, but I want to be more consistent”.
