A 38-year-old man hit the child on Saturday evening (July 23) when turning left in his car as it rolled off a property into a restricted-traffic area in a bobby car. The police announced on Sunday (July 24).

First responders, an emergency doctor and paramedics initially tried to revive the girl. However, all attempts were unsuccessful. The one-year-old died from her injuries at the scene of the accident. As reported by ndr.de , the child’s parents had witnessed the incident and as a result had to be looked after by an emergency chaplain.
The driver initially drove on after the collision, but then returned to the scene of the accident. In the course of the investigation, the police officers noticed the smell of alcohol in the 38-year-old. A test showed a value of 0.8 per thousand. Three blood samples were then taken. The police said it was investigating whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol as the cause of the accident. (kas/dpa)
