Bezzecchi: "I stayed behind Bagnaia to avoid trouble"

Motegi.- The young Ducati rookie rider finished tenth in the MotoGP race of the Japanese Grand Prix in another good result for him, crossing the finish line more than six seconds behind Enea Bastianini and both gaining one position due to the crash, in the last lap, by Pecco Bagnaia when he was driving ninth trying to overtake Fabio Quartararo.

During the first part of the test, Marco Bezzecchi was in the group with Pecco and Enea, he may have even tried to pass Bagnaia when Bastianini overtook him, but he made his own decisions about it, proving to have a cool head.

“It wasn’t bad at all, since I went racing with the hard rear tire and hadn’t tried it at any time,” explained the VR46 guy.

“But the soft would have been too risky a choice. I think it was the right choice. In the warm up, I think Luca Marini and Pecco tried the hard, others the soft and I the medium. We came to the conclusion that we had to choose between the soft and the hard, because the average did not transmit anything good to me, despite the fact that Jorge Martín was very fast with it”, he maintained the explanation of his choice of tire.

“I started well, but by the time I got to Pecco I stayed behind him so I wouldn’t risk making a mess,” he confessed.

“When the peloton regrouped, I had already been there about ten laps, and the tires were starting to give me problems because of the pressure”, as they got too hot.

On the detail of not wanting to attack Bagnaia, Bezzecchi assured that the decision was totally personal.

“During the race I thought too much. Pecco is a good friend of mine, but at certain moments I felt that I had more pace than him, but I chose to stay behind. It was 100% my choice, nobody from Ducati, nor Gigi (Dall’Igna) nor anyone, they had told me nothing about it”, concluded the boy from Rimini .
