Hamburg – A Hamburg bicycle courier drove through the three-kilometer-long Elbe tunnel on her first day at work – because the navigation device suggested it to her.
The woman survived the trip through the fourth tube of the tunnel towards the south late Monday evening unharmed and without incident, said a police spokesman on Tuesday morning. The Elbe tunnel is part of the motorway and therefore not allowed for cyclists. According to the information, she was traveling on an e-bike.
The driver of a garbage truck noticed the cyclist “and escorted them with a yellow flashing light and brought them safely through the Elbe tunnel,” said the police spokesman. On the other hand, the cyclist was received by the police. The woman will probably have to pay a fine, said the spokesman. dpa
