The KTM rider, who is still waiting to achieve his first victory of the course, took a dizzying lap in the throes of training, rolling behind Marc Márquez.
Alex Rins, winner of last Sunday’s race at Phillip Island , led the #93 by two tenths while Enea Bastianini finished fourth.
The fifth best lap was signed by Joan Mir, who was only 15 thousandths faster than Jorge Martín (sixth). Fabio Quartararo, who this weekend has the task of keeping the fight for the World Cup alive until Valencia, finished seventh, almost seven tenths off the lead.
Fabio Di Giannantonio finished eighth, while Luca Marini (ninth) and Marco Bezzecchi (tenth) closed a top from which Pecco Bagnaia was left out, by only three thousandths.
In the struggle between the Ducati rider and Quartararo, it must be taken into account that neither of them resorted to a set of new tires at the end of the session, a circumstance that leads us to think that their real potential has not yet been seen.
Apart from the top ten, the 12th place of Franco Morbidelli, who is going through one of the most complicated moments of his career in the championship, caught our attention.
Aleix Espargaró, for his part, did not have a comfortable first contact if we take into account that he went down, and that the second Aprilia with which he rejoined the track experienced some technical problem. The Catalan, who could only complete five laps and spent the second part of practice with his arms crossed, finished 20th, 2.1 seconds behind Binder.
