The Ferrari team managed to take the first pole position of the 2022 Formula 1 season at the Bahrain Grand Prix thanks to Charles Leclerc’s lap, which served to beat Max Verstappen’s Red Bull by more than a tenth.

In addition, the second of the single-seaters from Maranello, that of Carlos Sainz, finished in third place, a few thousandths behind the current world champion, confirming the good form of the most successful team in the history of the highest category.

The boss of those in red, Mattia Binotto , explained that they went through a tough recovery process to be in the fight for victories with the change in the technical regulations, but that seeing the F1-75 on the track running fast is a sign that the work has paid off.

“I think it’s great for us to be there, it’s tough, and it will be very close throughout the season with very different cars,” said the Italian manager. “It’s a good battle, and everyone was waiting for Ferrari, after a few difficult seasons.”

The head of the Maranello team showed his satisfaction with the work done throughout the past year, when they began with the design of the current single-seater: “We have worked very hard in the factory, the team is fantastic and it is good to see that we are performing right”.

“Tomorrow will be another day, we know that well, and we’ll see, because the race is long and a lot can happen,” said Binotto , who remained cautious despite setting Saturday’s fastest time at Sakhir.

“Qualifying has shown us that the car is working well and the season is going to be long, so we want to be part of it. I think today we got the best of us, we put everything we had and the most we could, although the The real potential of these cars will be known in a few races, perhaps in four,” said the Italian.

At Ferrari they know that updating and improving the car will be the key that will allow them to fight for the title, in a battle that, initially, will be with Red Bull after seeing the performance of the teams in the first classification of the season: ” Now we must be developing the car and managing it so that it is not expensive, so it will be interesting to see what happens.”
