Booster vaccinations: who gets which vaccine – and where

The number of infections is increasing and many people want a booster vaccination. You can find out who gets them and where there are appointments in Frankfurt here.

Frankfurt – Actually, the Robert Koch Institute recommends the Corona booster vaccination only for high-risk patients, among other things. But more and more people want to be vaccinated again and, also in Frankfurt, want a so-called “booster vaccination”.

In order to strengthen the protective shield against the virus again, there are a few things to consider. Vaccination does not always make sense: “The booster vaccination with an mRNA vaccine should take place at the earliest six months after completion of the basic immunization,” emphasizes the Robert Koch Institute and refers to a recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission.

RKI: Six months between the last corona vaccination and the booster

The RKI also stated that in the case of a first and second vaccination with an mRNA vaccine, this should also be used for the booster vaccination. For people who have been primed with the mRNA vaccine, protection is sufficient for a few months. It will only be time for a booster vaccination six months after the latest corona vaccination, according to the experts. The RKI particularly recommends a refresher for senior citizens in care facilities and their nursing staff. The third vaccination is also recommended to hospital staff who have direct contact with sick and weakened people.

It is different for people who were vaccinated with the vaccine from Janssen (Johnson and Johnson). The Standing Vaccination Commission advises you not to use the vaccine that has already been administered for a booster vaccine, as is the case with other vaccines, but rather to use an mRNA vaccine. Because Jannsen’s vaccine has “a comparatively low vaccine effectiveness compared to the Delta variant”, the protective effect should be improved in this way. A booster vaccination is recommended four weeks after the basic vaccination.

Corona booster vaccination: Only a few vaccination centers are still open

But getting a booster vaccination is not that easy in Hessen at the moment. Since almost all vaccination centers were closed at the beginning of autumn, immunization was left to the general practitioners and specialists. You have taken the first, second or booster vaccinations since then. In some cities, however, Hessen still keeps vaccination stations open.

Hessen provides an overview of the centers and their opening times online. In Frankfurt, for example, the vaccination center vaccinates
Messefrankfurt. The city provides all information about the booster vaccination online. (kh)
