Businessman Alberto Baillères dies at 90 years of age

Businessman Alberto Baillères González died on the night of February 2 at the age of 90.

Alberto Baillères was one of the most important businessmen in the country, and his companies include El Palacio de Hierro , GNP and Grupo Peñoles .

The news about his death was confirmed by a granddaughter of the businessman and two more relatives. Subsequently, in several statements issued to the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV), the group’s companies reported the date of his death.

“The Board extends its deepest condolences to the Baillères family and would like to thank Don Alberto for his impeccable example and extraordinary legacy, which will live forever among all our collaborators. His passionate dedication, human sense and values with which he led Throughout his life, he is an inspiration to all of us. We will remember him as a visionary businessman, an exemplary Mexican, a romantic dreamer who succeeded and exceeded his goals and, above all, as the wonderful human being that he was,” said GNP, Peñoles and Palacio del Hierro in three documents with the same content.

Sources close to the , also reported that there would be no funeral due to the health situation resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last year his son, Alejandro Baillères, took over the reins of the empire, while his father took the position of honorary president for life.

The businessman who in 2015 was awarded the Belisario Domínguez Medal of Honor, also founded the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM).
