Calafia Airlines is fined for breaching two contracts of almost 12 million pesos

The Mexican regional airline Calafia Airlines was fined 269,328 pesos for breach of two contracts with the Mexican Institute of Social Security ( IMSS ), for which it was incorporated into the directory of sanctioned suppliers and contractors of the Ministry of Public Administration (SFP) and, with this, it was suspended to enter into contracts with the public sector for six months .

The sanction derives from the breach of two contracts: S0M0147, for the concept of “Subrogated service of a round-trip aircraft and variable events for semi-urgent transfer to beneficiaries ( charter flight ) during the 2021 financial year; and contract S0M0155, for “Reservation and Purchase Service of Air and Maritime Transportation Tickets for the transfer on National Routes of Rightholders, during the 2021 financial year”, as recorded on the CompraNet platform.

The total amount of both contracts, which had the Supply and Equipment Coordination #050GYR030 of IMSS as purchasing unit, was 11,732,129.8 pesos. The contracts were mainly for round-trip services from La Paz , Baja California Sur, to Ciudad Obregón , in Sonora, as well as to Guadalajara , Jalisco, and Tijuana , in Baja California, among other destinations.

“This sanction was imposed by the area of responsibilities of the internal control body at the Mexican Institute of Social Security, so any query or clarification related to it should be directed to said administrative authority for its attention”, refers the file of Calafia Airlines as an offender on the SFP platform.

In addition, an administrative sanction procedure published in the Official Gazette of the Federation was resolved, in which it is reported that the agencies and entities of the federal public administration must refrain from receiving proposals or entering into contracts with Calafia Airlines for six months.

“In the event that on the day the disqualification period expires, the company Aéreo Calafia, SA DE CV has not paid the fine imposed through the aforementioned resolution, the disqualification will continue until the corresponding payment is made. ”, refers to Circular No. 00641/30.15/6420/2022.

The contracts awarded and that are currently formalized with the company will not be included in the application of the circular, adds the DOF publication.

Calafia Airlines is a regional airline that has mainly in northwestern Mexico , mainly in Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Sinaloa and Chihuahua. During the first half of the year, it transported an average of 12,082 passengers in regular service operations, according to information from the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC).
