Californian chain snake is spreading in Baden-Württemberg

Introduced animal species can be dangerous for ecosystems. This also applies to a snake that was recently found in southern Baden, among other places.

Baden-Württemberg – Experts know the Californian chain snake under the species name Lampropeltis californiae, actually it is native to Mexico and the southwest of the USA. She is considered a skilled hunter and preys on birds, small mammals and lizards, and sometimes other snakes. After several finds in Baden-Württemberg, among other places, experts are now warning of the snake species.
