Carlos Sainz's roller coaster in the 2022 F1 season

In his second season with Ferrari, Carlos Sainz is experiencing a real carousel of emotions with peaks of tremendous satisfaction and others in which his hopes of achieving good results have been frustrated.

“It’s been a roller coaster, especially at the beginning,” said Sainz in an interview on the official Formula 1 website. “It’s complicated with this car. Two consecutive retirements at the beginning left me out of the fight for the championship very soon. “Then I had a high peak in Canada and Silverstone, then a low moment, then a high moment. But I prefer the roller coaster being as competitive as I am now, than at the beginning.”

Despite the irregularity of the Madrid season, his team has always supported him, aware that when Sainz has things on his side, we can witness great performances.

“In any case, everyone is happy” explains the Spanish driver about the perception his team is having “if I’m competitive, the team will be happy. They’ve seen the progress we’ve made with the car. I’m not saying it’s done, or that I don’t have to progress any further and still feel comfortable and strong, but it’s clear that the way I approach the weekend has helped. My mindset for the weekend is more focused on maximizing everything, rather than trying to find something in the car that clicks every session.

The strategy has been one of the points in which Sainz has surely found himself a little more unassisted by his team, as well as in some punctual failures in the pit stops. Despite everything, Carlos does not see a problem there and believes that being Ferrari, they are looked at with a magnifying glass.

“Strategy is always a topic of conversation at Ferrari,” he explained, “I don’t know why everyone looks at our strategy and over-analyzes what we should have done. I guess it’s part of being Ferrari. by] radio. All our radio messages are broadcast. Perhaps this gives an impression of chaos.

“But the conversations are always the same, it doesn’t matter if it’s a quiet race or not, or one that depends on strategy or not, we always have these conversations that you hear on TV and I find them extremely important in making the right decisions. I’d rather have them than not have them, seriously.”
