Celebrating Gay Pride in the progressive city of Columbia

Missouri’s fifth-largest city, Columbia, is also one of the progressive centers of the state, home to the University of Missouri. Informally nicknamed “CoMo,” this city of roughly 120,000 is located roughly midway between Kansas City and St. Louis and just 30 miles north of Missouri’s state capital, Jefferson City. Like many large college towns, Columbia is anchored in an eclectic and pedestrian-friendly center littered with cafes, bars, restaurants, and independent shops – the annual Columbia Gay Pride celebration, officially known as Mid-Missouri PrideFest, is also held here. . at the end of August.

 

The celebration takes place in downtown Columbia at Rose Music Hall, formerly known as Mojo’s, and features R & B / soul sensation Maxine Nightingale, the Big House Drag Show, Pride Idol, community vendors. and more

Although there is no LGBT newspaper in Columbia, there are LGBT newspapers in other parts of Missouri that have some coverage in the middle of the state. In St. Louis, watch Vital Voice, Outrage Magazine, and LGBT Boom; Kansas City is home to the Camp KC newspaper.
