The Potsdam public prosecutor has brought charges against a 36-year-old who allegedly tried to extort money from the parcel service provider DHL.

Potsdam – The alleged blackmailer of the parcel service DHL could soon be brought to trial. The Potsdam public prosecutor's office has brought charges against the 36-year-old, as the authority announced on its website on Wednesday.

The man, who turned himself in to the authorities at the end of May, is accused of having made “a large number of blackmail attempts to the detriment of German parcel service providers”.

On December 1, 2017, a package bomb was discovered in a pharmacy on the edge of the Potsdam Christmas Market, which contained an explosive device and nails as well as a letter. It called for a sum of millions in Bitcoins from DHL. Nobody got hurt.

At the beginning of November 2017, an explosive shipment had already been received at the Postzentrum Frankfurt (Oder). Blackmail letters that were attributed to the same perpetrator also appeared in Berlin. dpa
