Charles Darwin: Biography, Works and Theory of Evolution

0

The theory of the evolution of living beings marked a before and after in scientific discoveries. And the one who came up with it was the biologist Charles Darwin . Considered one of the most important of his profession in all history. Let’s look at his various discoveries.

This English naturalist published one of the most important scientific works, “The Origin of Species” something that marked the theory of evolution that we had until then.

Short biography

He was born in Shrewsbury, England, on February 12, 1809, and from a very young age he became interested in biology and studied medicine . Then he abandoned this career to dedicate himself to studying what he liked, which includes geology and botany, among others.

Then he went to various countries by boat and developed his theory of evolution. Upon arriving back in England, he published his book that seemed to change everything. The biologist died of heart disease in 1882.

Theory of evolution

In addition to this work, Charles Darwin also wrote “The preservation of the favored races in the struggle for life”, in 1859, where he established that the explanation of the diversity that is observed in nature is due to the modifications accumulated by evolution throughout successive generations.

Apparently, and until the time of the biologist’s research, it was believed that the species were the same since the appearance of life, but it was shown that they were not, and that organisms are constantly changing.

The scientist was talking about the theory of natural selection , which establishes the mechanism of evolutionary change. And with this he wanted to resolve the unity of type and the conditions of existence. He also introduced the fact that the mechanism by which organisms evolved was a totally natural selection.

And it was also made with the idea that you must adapt to the environment as soon as possible the better, and that the organisms started from a common ancestor that had been differentiated into different species.

The origin of species had a great stir, with criticism and controversy . Especially in the scientific and religious community, although in the second half of the 19th century, the Victorian world began to accept the theory of evolution and then in the 20th century, with more discoveries by other scientists , the theory of evolution was also accepted. Theory of natural selection. Something that Darwin shared in his works thanks to his various investigations.
