This weekend will see the most special Grand Prix of the season for Sergio Pérez: the Mexican Grand Prix. His home date, always surrounded by a differential aura that sets it apart from the rest of the events on the calendar, always generates great expectation around the local hero, who will once again seek victory in front of his public.

Checo Pérez said, in an event prior to the weekend, that if he wins in Mexico City he will do so on his own merits, and assured that he does not want to depend on team orders to get to the top of the podium. The one from Guadalajara is clear that the only way to make the Mexican anthem sound is to have the rhythm to be in the first places on Sunday.

“I have the full support of Red Bull,” said the Mexican driver at a press conference. “If you can make a difference, it will, but in the end it’s up to me. I have to be perfect to win the race,” he said.

With three races to go until the end of the course (Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi), Checo is third in the general classification , just two points behind second-placed Charles Leclerc.

“I hope that the fight for the runner-up finish in our favor,” he said, adding that he will try “everything.” Doing so would certify the double for Red Bull , which arrives in Mexico City with the drivers’ and constructors’ titles under their arms.

But his desire to win the gold at home is so great that the Red Bull Racing driver stated that he preferred victory at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez to being runner -up in the world.

“I hope to win, I come to that and I have the opportunity to do it,” he explained. “It would be amazing to be able to fulfill that dream in my career.”

“Without a doubt, winning in Mexico matters more to me, because it’s a dream I’ve had since I was a child. Being runner-up in the world has never been my dream,” he concluded.

However, Checo does not have one of the best winners at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Since the appointment’s return to the Grand Circus calendar in 2015, Pérez only managed to get on the podium once, in 2021. Outside of that bronze, the Mexican never surpassed the barrier of seventh place.
