The case had caused horror and outrage nationwide in the United States: A six-year-old was killed after being shot. Now there are arrests.

Orange (AP) – Around two weeks after shooting at a moving car on an expressway in the US city of Orange, which killed a six-year-old, two suspects were arrested.

A 24-year-old and a 23-year-old were taken into custody on Sunday (local time) in the city of Costa Mesa, about 13 kilometers southwest, said the California motorway police. They are expected to be charged with murder.

In the incident at the end of May, the two now arrested were on Freeway 55 in Orange when they are said to have got into an argument with the six-year-old’s mother. The trigger was a change of lane that was “perceived as unsafe”. Subsequently, one of the two suspects is said to have fired at least one shot at the car with mother and son. According to media reports, these were on their way to kindergarten. The boy was sitting in the child seat and complained of pain in his stomach after he was hit. Rescue workers took the six-year-old to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

In the aftermath of the incident, the reward for information was reportedly increased to $ 500,000, thanks to donations. The police thanked the population for the “indescribable wave of sympathy and hundreds of clues” that helped investigators find the suspects. There was initially no information on how the two were located.
