Massive restrictions are coming to Cologne. Dozens of trams will be taken out of service. The reason: risk of fire.

Cologne – At the beginning of October, a light rail system operated by the Cologne Transport Authority (KVB) caught fire in the Ebertplatz underground station in Cologne. The fire brigade was in action. Now, a few weeks later, this fire is having an impact on the whole of Cologne: the KVB is pulling around 30 trains out of service – and doing so immediately. The 2300 series trams are affected. The reason: there is a risk of fire. The train of KVB line 18, which caught fire in October, also belonged to this series.
24RHEIN shows the consequences of the fact that 30 trams are now being taken out of service in Cologne.

The affected lanes must now be retrofitted by performing a software update. For passengers, there are therefore numerous changes in the operation of the Stadtbahn. Among other things, shorter trains are used. (mlu)
