In a tourist destination in Austria, a café operator is causing a stir. Your strategy comes across to the authorities.

Salzburg – A municipality with around 3,600 inhabitants in Austria is currently making headlines – with a café. In Strobl am Wolfgangsee, an idyllic place in the Salzburg region, there is a restaurant that only serves people who have not been vaccinated against the coronavirus.

If you want to stop in this café, which is part of a health food store, you have to be unvaccinated. Josef Weikinger, mayor of the community, reacts ironically to the action: “You can only laugh about it, think your part and appeal to the guests not to go there. Because that doesn’t match our line, ”he explains to ORF.

After several attempts to talk to the owner of the café, the focus is now on humor, says Weikinger. “This is of course a local call, and you can’t hide something like that. But we don’t take it so seriously to deal with it in detail, we just smile at it, ”said the mayor.

Not only the community, but also the managing director of the Wolfgangsee Tourismus Gesellschaft is now distancing himself from the campaign: “This is completely crazy,” says Hans Wieser of the Austrian newspaper Kurier. He too had sought a conversation with the café operator – in vain. “That doesn’t correspond at all with our approach. And she knows that too, ”emphasizes Wieser.

In Austria, the catering industry is allowed to reopen. Part of the corona measures is now the “3-G rule”, which the federal government also discussed at the corona summit. (do)
