The number of new corona infections continues to rise. The Oktoberfest wave rolls through Munich. Munich’s Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) has again tested positive for Corona.
Berlin – The corona cases are increasing significantly. After the end of the Oktoberfest, Munich’s Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) was also caught. The 64-year-old has flu-like symptoms and is staying away from the city council, it said on Wednesday (October 5). His rapid test was positive. If the result is confirmed, it would be the second corona disease for Reiter. In the city of Munich and the Unland (Bavaria), the number of new coronavirus infections has risen sharply. The clinics are well occupied.
Corona in Germany: Infection numbers continue to rise
But the number of infections is also increasing nationwide. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) registered 132,494 new corona infections (previous week: 78,863), according to data from the Covid-19 dashboard on Thursday morning (October 6). The RKI gives the 7-day incidence as 462.4.
It is now well known that the number of unreported cases of corona is much higher. Because only positive PCR tests are included in the statistics. In addition, there are regular late registrations and problems with data transmission. Individual daily values are therefore less meaningful than a weekly comparison. The corona autumn wave is apparently building up slowly.
Sars-CoV2 infections are one thing. According to experts, the incidence plays a subordinate role in assessing the infection situation. Serious illnesses that have to be treated in intensive care units are problematic. The initial admissions of Covid 19 patients have been increasing since the beginning of October, as data from the DIVI intensive care register show.

Corona wave in autumn and winter?
It is the third Corona autumn. As expected, the corona numbers increase with the cold season. “In the past week, too, #new infections have risen sharply,” writes the Federal Ministry of Health on Twitter (Wednesday, October 5). “One of the ways to protect yourself and others is to wear a #FFP2 mask indoors.”
The new Corona rules have been in force since October 1st. There is a nationwide FFP2 mask requirement in long-distance trains and long-distance buses. On the other hand, masks are no longer compulsory on airplanes. In regional traffic, the federal states will now decide for themselves on the protective measures. The federal states can also prescribe stricter measures, such as a mask requirement in shops and restaurants or tests in schools and daycare centers.
Health Minister Karl Lauterbach has already appealed to the federal states to take measures and apply the new Infection Protection Act (since October 1, 2022). (ml)
