Corona case numbers are increasing: the number of vaccinations is declining

New infections, deaths, incidence: All important case numbers from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in the corona crisis are increasing.

  • Corona situation on Saturday: The RKI reports the daily updated number of cases in the pandemic.
  • A look at the RKI figures shows that more and more people in Germany are becoming infected with Sars-CoV-2.
  • The number of deaths related to a corona infection is also increasing again.

+++ 3.25 p.m .: The number of vaccinations in Germany decreased at the end of the week. As can be seen from data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Saturday, at least 370,000 vaccine doses were administered on Friday – the day before there were 466,000. There were almost 582,000 vaccinations on Friday a week ago, and around 769,000 on the previous Friday.

According to the RKI, at least 73.9 percent of the population (61.4 million) have received full basic protection. This usually requires two doses of vaccine. The RKI still counts people who have only received one dose of the Johnson & Johnson preparation – but this is currently being changed. In the future, people who have been vaccinated by Johnson & Johnson should only be considered fully vaccinated after a second vaccination dose – if possible with an mRNA vaccine such as that from Biontech/Pfizer or Moderna.

More than half of the population has received a booster vaccination against the coronavirus. At least 43.7 million people (52.6 percent) have now been boosted, the RKI said. This is important for effective protection against the particularly contagious virus variant Omicron.

Currently, 24.3 percent of the population (20.2 million people) are not vaccinated. There is currently no approved vaccine available for four million of these people aged 0 to 4 years.

Fewer people are getting vaccinated.

Corona case numbers are increasing: hospitals and nursing homes are particularly at risk

+++ 12.04 p.m .: More and more people are getting infected with the corona virus in Germany. Nursing homes and hospitals in particular are not adequately protected against the corona outbreaks, according to the German Foundation for Patient Protection. The Foundation sharply criticized considerations of giving the Omicron variant free rein without stricter rules. In an interview with the Düsseldorfer Rheinische Post, Eugen Brysch, board member of the foundation, called these demands “insane”.

Infections with the omicron variant seem to take a milder course, but people who are particularly at risk still need to be protected. In nursing homes and hospitals, there is a particular lack of the ability to carry out daily quick tests.

Nursing homes and hospitals lack daily rapid tests. According to the RKI, the number of cases is increasing every day.

Update from Saturday, January 29th, 2022, 8:25 a.m .: In Germany, the incidences are higher than ever. Health authorities are massively overburdened in many places, so that the transmission of the number of cases to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is sometimes delayed – experts therefore assume that the numbers are even higher than assumed. Nevertheless, the RKI promises a “reliable assessment of the overall development”, since not only the number of infections is decisive, but “the development of the number and severity of the diseases is in the foreground”.

Corona case numbers: RKI reports record incidence and increase in deaths

First report from Saturday, January 29th, 2022 : Frankfurt – Germany is in the middle of the omicron wave. The current case numbers from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) show this very clearly. The day before (January 28, 2022), the RKI had given the incidence as 1073.0.

According to the RKI, a total of 189,116 other people have been infected with Corona in the past 24 hours. These are slightly fewer cases than the day before, when the RKI would have reported 190,148 new cases. However, there are 53,705 cases compared to a week ago, when the RKI reported a total of 135,461 new infections from the health authorities in Germany.

Rapid tests for the coronavirus. According to the RKI, the number of cases in the pandemic is increasing continuously.

The case numbers of the RKI may differ from those of the individual federal states. One reason for this is the longer transmission paths between the RKI and the responsible health authorities. The RKI’s Covid-19 dashboard can also be adjusted during the day.

According to the RKI, the number of deaths in the Corona crisis is also increasing significantly again. Within 24 hours, the health authorities reported 182 further deaths in connection with a corona infection to the institute. That’s twelve more than the day before and three more than a week ago. According to the RKI case numbers, a total of 117,666 people died in Germany in connection with a corona infection. (Daniel Dillman)
