This Saturday (December 4th) the RKI reports more than 64,000 new infections in Germany during the Corona crisis.

Berlin – The fourth wave in the Corona crisis is far from broken. This becomes clear when you take a look at the key figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). As the RKI announced on Saturday, a total of 64,510 people in Germany have been infected with the Sars-CoV-2 pathogen in the past 24 hours. Although this is less than a week ago, the RKI reported a renewed increase in the seven-day incidence.

The incidence, which indicates the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week, is now 442.7 for the whole of Germany, according to the RKI. The day before, the RKI had given the value as 442.1. A week ago it was 444.3, according to the institute. In a comparison of the individual federal states, according to the RKI, Saxony has the highest incidence with a value of 1235.1. This is followed by the federal states of Thuringia (1026.5), Saxony-Anhalt (832.7) and Brandenburg (662.6).

Corona case numbers from the RKI: the number of daily deaths remains high

According to the RKI, the number of daily deaths in connection with a disease from Covid-19 is 378 this Saturday (December 4th). A week ago, 303 deaths were reported in the same 24-hour period. On Friday (December 3rd) the RKI stated the number of daily deaths to be 390.

Note on the numbers

When evaluating the infection rate, it should be borne in mind that experts are currently assuming a noticeable underreporting. Health authorities and clinics can no longer keep up with reporting cases, at least in individual regions. The RKI is also finding it difficult to assess the situation.

The slowed rise in the seven-day incidence could “on the one hand be a first indication of a slightly weakening dynamic in the transmission process due to the significantly intensified measures to reduce contact,” says the RKI weekly report on Thursday evening. However, the development could “regionally also be due to the increasingly overloaded capacities in the public health service and the exhausted laboratory capacities”.

According to the RKI figures, a total of 6,116,070 people have been infected with the corona virus in Germany since the start of the corona pandemic. 102,946 people did not survive an infection. (dil)
