Corona in Germany: RKI reports new incidence record – and more than 135,000 new infections

The Robert Koch Institute reports the current new corona infections – the data at a glance.

Frankfurt/Berlin – Germany is in the midst of an omicron wave. The Robert Koch Institute has been reporting new record numbers of corona cases for days. According to the RKI, for example, on Thursday (01/20/2022) there were 133,536, on Friday (01/21/2022) 140,160.

The value on Saturday (January 22, 2022) is similarly high: According to the latest data from the institute, the health authorities reported 135,461 new corona infections in Germany. The 7-day incidence is 772.7. According to the RKI, there are also 179 new deaths related to corona infections.

According to RKI data, the capital Berlin is currently the main corona hotspot: several urban districts are among the districts with the highest incidence values in the statistics: Berlin Mitte (2814.3), Berlin Pankow (1952.6), Berlin Friedrichshain- Kreuzberg (1776.4), Berlin Neukölln (1751.3), Berlin Spandau (1737.9).

Information on the number of cases

The case numbers of the RKI may differ from those of the individual federal states. One reason for this is the longer transmission paths between the RKI and the responsible health authorities. The RKI’s Covid-19 dashboard can also be adjusted during the day.
