In Italy, a corona vaccination is already mandatory in critical areas, such as the health sector. Now the compulsory vaccination could be extended to all employees.

Rome – In the first year of the corona pandemic *, Italy was the first country in Europe to be badly hit. In Bergamo, the military removed coffins – images that shocked the whole world. Strict corona rules apply in the country – but the corona numbers are also rising again in Italy.

Vaccinations are compulsory for employees in the Italian health system, and recently it has also been introduced for staff in schools, in the area of health administration, the police, the military and rescue workers. Now the Italian government is apparently considering introducing a general vaccination requirement for employees. “Some measures, such as the introduction of a mask requirement in the open air, could soon be taken,” the newspaper Corriere della Sera quoted one of the main scientific advisers to the government of Mario Draghi, Franco Locatelli. This should prevent a sharp increase in new corona infections over the Christmas holidays. From January, the corona vaccination requirement could be extended to all employees, the newspaper said.

Corona variant Omikron in Italy: “Will likely see an increase in cases”

The omicron variant of the coronavirus is spreading rapidly in Italy, according to the National Health Institute (ISS). On Saturday (December 18, 2021) the ISS announced that 84 Omikron cases were known in the country so far, a “strong acceleration” of 55 cases on Friday. 33 of the cases were found in Lombardy around the city of Milan, 20 cases in the region around Naples. This spread of Omikron was largely expected and “in line with what we have seen in other countries,” the Reuters news agency quoted ISS President Silvio Brusaferro as saying. “We’ll likely see an increase in cases in the coming days.”

It was only on Tuesday (December 14th, 2021) that the Italian government extended the state of emergency, which was supposed to expire at the end of December, until the end of March. All visitors from EU countries must also be tested for Corona by January 31, 2022 before they leave. (tab) * fr.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
