The police have arrested a man who is said to have offered the delivery of coronaviruses for self-infection on the Internet.

The Hague / Kassel – A man was arrested by the Dutch financial police in the Netherlands. He is said to have offered the delivery of coronaviruses for self-infection on the Internet.

The suspect is in connection with a corresponding website, which has since been switched off, reported the anti-fraud unit of the Ministry of Finance (FIOD) in The Hague.

Trading with coronaviruses on the Internet: “Corona-Kit” for 33.50 euros

The Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported on Saturday (December 11th, 2021) that a so-called “corona kit” was sent by post on the website for EUR 33.50. Allegedly it should have contained a tube with a virus liquid and a corona self-test. The providers therefore promised that the viruses were not older than three months and that buyers could “be sure that the latest mutations and variants are also included”.

According to FIOD, potential buyers were promised that they could have the health authorities issue a certificate for recovered persons in accordance with the 2G rule after self-infection and recovering from illness.

After the sale of “Corona kits”: the police release suspects

The suspect is now at large. “The further investigations must show whether he has sold something and if so, how much and whether that works at all,” said a FIOD spokesman for the Dutch news agency ANP.

The authority for health care warned in the context of the current events of self-infections: “Anyone who deliberately infects himself is culpably endangering public health,” said a spokeswoman. (Helena Gries with dpa)

New corona restrictions have been in effect in the Netherlands since mid-November. Only recently there were riots again during protests against the corona restrictions in the Netherlands. Rioters set fires, destroyed bus stops and set off heavy fireworks in several Dutch cities.
