Corona: new incidence high – omicron subtype is increasing

0

The corona incidence in Germany continues to rise and is now over 1300. Meanwhile, an omicron sub-variant is being kept in mind.

Munich – Another new high for the new corona infections transmitted: According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI)*, the health authorities reported 248,838 cases in 24 hours on Friday morning (RKI dashboard, as of February 4, 3:49 a.m.) . A week ago there were 190,148 new infections recorded. The RKI gave the seven-day incidence as 1349.5 – this is also a high. For comparison: the day before the value was 1283.2.

Mind you: Experts assume a high and increasing number of cases that are not recorded in the RKI data – for example because test capacities and health authorities are at the limit in many places. In addition, some cities and districts have been reporting problems with the transmission of the Corona * case numbers for days. An RKI special team meanwhile expects up to 800,000 new infections per day.

According to the new information, 170 deaths were recorded nationwide within 24 hours. The number of corona-infected patients who came to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within one week was given by the RKI on Thursday at 5.00 (Wednesday: 4.77). These may also include people with a positive corona test who have another main illness.

Corona numbers in Germany – the number of doctor visits is stagnating in some cases

Another number to classify the situation: The RKI estimates that there were around 320,000 doctor visits in Germany in the past week because of Corona. The values of the fourth wave are already significantly exceeded in almost all age groups, the authority writes in its weekly report on Thursday evening. “Compared to the previous week, the increase in the 35 to 59 year olds and the over 80 year olds continued, while the number of doctor consultations for COVID-ARE in the other age groups stagnated or fell slightly,” it says.

According to RKI calculations, 0.9 to 1.8 percent of the population aged 15 and over had contracted Covid-19 with symptoms of an acute respiratory disease in the previous week. In the case of children up to the age of 15, the Institute speaks of a proportion of those affected of around 1.6 to 3.2 percent. The RKI has been presenting such calculations for around two weeks – also because laboratories and health authorities are at the limit when recording infected people and it is assumed that the reporting data is becoming increasingly incomplete.

According to the RKI, estimated values for hospital admissions of patients infected with Sars-CoV-2 “remained at a high level” and showed a continued slight upward trend (so-called adjusted hospitalization incidence). In intensive care units, there is currently no increase due to the omicron wave.

Corona: Omicron subtype continues to grow at a low level

Meanwhile, the omicron sub-variant BA.2*, which is apparently even more transferrable, continues to grow at a low level in Germany. For the week ending January 23, the RKI reports a share of 5.1 percent – around twice as much as the week before. The data come from a sample of cases where full genetic analysis was performed. Accordingly, the omicron subtype BA.1 has dominated in Germany so far . (dpa/cibo) *Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
