Corona vaccination obligation in Austria: details on control, procedure, affected persons and penalties seep through

From February, a corona vaccination should apply in Austria. A first draft law now gives insights into possible regulations and penalties.

Vienna – The discussion is still hot in Germany – in Austria, on the other hand, the compulsory corona vaccination * has already been decided. However, exact details of the regulation planned from February 1, 2022 have been missing so far. This now apparently provides a first draft law, about which the Austrian media report unanimously.

Corona vaccination mandatory in Austria: Booster vaccination is also mandatory

The draft law has not yet been officially published. Still, it appears to have already leaked.

According to the courier , the compulsory Corona * vaccination will apply from the age of 14 for everyone with their main residence in Austria. It consists of three vaccinations:

  • The first vaccination
  • The second vaccination no earlier than 14 days and no later than 42 days after the first vaccination
  • The third vaccination no earlier than 120 days and no later than 270 days after the pre-vaccination

In order to know who has already been vaccinated against Corona and how much in Austria *, the central vaccination register and the central registration register should be used, it said. According to information from heute.at, the vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer, Moderna, Astrazeneca and Johnson & Johnson are recognized.

Corona vaccination obligation in Austria: Four groups are excluded

The ORF also reports that the following people should be exempt from the compulsory vaccination:

  • Children and adolescents under 14 years of age
  • Pregnant women
  • Recovered six months after her positive test
  • People who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons

According to the report, all others should receive a postal request on February 15 (and every three months thereafter) to vaccinate by a certain vaccination deadline. According to the report from heute.at, the first cut-off date is March 15, 2022. From this day onwards, the unvaccinated will probably face fines.

Corona vaccination compulsory in Austria: These penalties threaten refusals

According to the ORF report, there is a fine of 600 euros every three months *.

Today.at reports unanimously that this could result in a maximum fine of 2,400 euros per year. If you don’t pay this amount, you can face fines of up to 3,600 euros. Income and financial circumstances should be used for the assessment. If this is still not paid, imprisonment can be imposed, it says here.
