Through its social media accounts, the Yamaha team announced that Cal Crutchlow will continue in his role as test rider for the Japanese factory for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

The 36-year-old British rider retired at the end of the 2020 season and was confirmed as a Yamaha test rider in mid-November of the same year, a contract that expired at the end of 2021 and was pending renewal.

Yamaha has taken advantage of the start of the pre-season tests in Sepang , where trials for test riders, debutants and teams with concessions are held from Monday to Wednesday, to close the renewal of the British, who in the first session, led by the Spaniard Raúl Fernández, did not go out on the track.

With the renewal in his pocket, Cal is expected to start shooting with the M1 2022 from this Tuesday or, at the latest, on Wednesday, the last day of shakedown, before February 5 and 6 take place. carried out the official pre-season test with all the drivers, in which he could also take part.

““I am happy to spend the next two years with the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team as their official test rider again. I think it makes sense that all parties involved continue our good working relationship from last year. I will again put 100% on it,” Crutchlow said after the deal.

For Yamaha, which will officially present the 2022 team on February 4, getting the 2022 prototype right is essential because last year’s champion, Fabio Quartararo, is waiting to understand the real potential of the bike before addressing the renewal of his contract, which ends at the end of this season.
