Curiosities about panda bears

0

Panda bears or giant pandas ( Ailuropoda Melanoleuca ) are endemic animals of the Asian continent. This species had decreased its population over the years, however, China has made this animal a national symbol to save it and prevent its extinction. His striking black and white fur, combined with a voluminous body and round face, gives him a captivating look. According to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, fewer than 1,900 pandas are believed to remain in the wild.

We know that they are calm animals that spend most of their time sleeping, eating or playing with whatever they find around them, but they do possess some surprising characteristics. Did you know that, unlike any other bear, they only eat bamboo? This is because it is the most abundant plant in the Chinese forests where they live.

Another of their peculiarities is that they adapt very well to any environment, since they have had to move around to satisfy the desire of humans and survive. These animals have been adjusting to the environment in order to thrive. In addition, despite having teeth to tear meat and digestive systems prepared to digest it, at some point in their evolution they began to eat a diet typical of herbivores.

Also, these animals are protected by Chinese laws and, in general, the majority of the population respects them and has a weakness for them. In recent years, numerous recovery programs for the species have been carried out, and that is why the panda bear population has managed to maintain itself. In fact, there are penalties of up to 20 years in prison for anyone who tries to kill them or traffic them for the sale of furs.
