His lottery ticket was crumpled up in a drawer. Then a Dane checked again and is now 120 million euros richer.

Helsinki/Münster – Three days after the 120 million Euro jackpot was won, the winner in Denmark has announced itself.

The lucky guy had crumpled up his lottery ticket in a drawer and only dared to check it on Sunday, the state lottery company Danske Spil announced on Monday in Brøndby.

The previous record lottery win from 2015 was 315 million Danish kroner in Denmark by Friday. With the 120 million euros from the Eurojackpot, the record sum now climbs to around 759 million Danish kroner.

The winning lottery ticket was purchased from a supermarket in Blåvand, about 100 kilometers north of the German-Danish border.

For Germany, the record profit is 110 million euros. A syndicate from North Rhine-Westphalia secured this sum in May. Such high sums have only been possible for a few months: To mark the tenth anniversary of the European lottery, the 18 participating countries raised the upper limit from 90 to 120 million euros at the end of March. The probability of winning the Eurojackpot is 1 in 140 million. dpa
