The DC Shorts Film Festival is the only film festival in the Washington DC area dedicated to showcasing and discussing short films from around the world. The lineup covers a variety of genres: dramas, comedies, animation, science fiction, documentaries, and creative experimental films. All movies are 20 minutes or less. DC Shorts Film Festiva will include nearly 170 films from more than 30 countries and will present 6 scripts in
a showcase of live reading. The 11-day event will include screenings of short films in every genre and style imaginable, Q&A from filmmakers, industry workshops, parties, networking events and more.

This year’s programming is broader than ever with 17
Exclusive showcases of official selection, 12 special showcases organized by theme, a free outdoor showcase in
partnership with The Golden Triangle BID and four, free lunchtime showcases featuring
filmmakers from underserved communities in collaboration with OCTFME. It is also special this year
the number of films to be released at the festival, including 15 world premieres, 6
Americans, 5 Americans and 25 from the East Coast.

Movie screening venues

The DC Shorts Film Festival will take place at the following locations in the greater DC area.

Special screenings

The special showcases will feature a variety of shorts from this year’s official selections and shorts from partner organizations. Each showcase will revolve around a different theme. Topics include Canadian Films Celebrating Canada’s 150th Anniversary, Current Events Films, Animation, GLBT, African Americans, and many more. The screenings will include films from the 123 official selections of the 2017 festival and around 50 additional short films programmed by partners. Tickets are required.

Script contest

Returning this year will be the DC Shorts Script Competition where the public will vote on 6 selected screenplays. The winner receives $ 2,000 to film their project and automatic entry to their full movie at DC Shorts 2016. The event will take place in the United States. Navy Memorial Burke Theater on Friday, September 16, 7-10 pm Tickets are limited and cost $ 20. Meet the writers after the reading at the free wine and cheese reception.

Free shows at lunchtime

Presented in association with OCTFME and several other community partners, 19 films by local filmmakers will be screened for free at E Street Landmark Theaters during lunchtime every day of the week throughout the festival. Many of the films are about and from underserved communities. Reservations are required.

Free outdoor showcase

New this year, DC Shorts presents a new event for movie and outdoor enthusiasts. The Outdoor Showcase will be held in Farragut Square and will screen short films from Japan, Germany and the United States on Thursday, September 14 at dusk. This screening is made possible by The Golden Triangle BID, The Goethe Institute and The Japanese Information and Cultural Center, Asian Pacific American Film Festival and EuroAsia Shorts. Reservations are not required, but arrive early for a good spot.

City view party

Friday, September 8, 9-11 pm Rooftop at Carroll Square, 975 F Street, NW Washington DC. Celebrate Opening Weekend under the stars on a rooftop terrace with a live musical performance… Tickets: $ 25.
