After leaving great sensations in his debut in Formula 1 in Monza, the Dutchman has raised the interest of teams such as Alpine and Williams, as well as the possibility of joining the Red Bull structure, but insists that he is not in a position to choose where to go.
If he joins AlphaTauri, Pierre Gasly will be free to sign with Alpine. But if Gasly stays, Nyck De Vries will have to focus on his other two options.
However, neither Alpine nor Williams seems to be the first option at the moment. Speaking about it, De Vries insisted that he cannot decide where he will go, despite what some have rumored in recent days.
“I don’t know if I’m in such a luxurious situation that I can choose where I’m going to go,” Humberto op Zaterdag told the Dutch television show.
“That’s largely out of my control. I’ve had a lot of talks with Williams , and I was able to make my debut alongside them last weekend as well.”
“It would be a logical step. But I have also been in contact with Alpine since July, and I will do a test for them in Budapest next week. I will fly there on Monday,” he explained.
“And yes, the media caught on yesterday, I also went to Austria to meet Helmut Marko .”
De Vries said he had no preference, and would be happy to agree to any of the options currently on the table.
“Wherever I can get a permanent seat, I’d be very happy. We have to see how it all plays out in the next few days and weeks. Like I said, it’s not in my control.”
“In this world it’s not all about performance, but it helps a lot. That makes a difference, but it doesn’t guarantee you a seat. But yeah, we’re not that far away.”
The Dutchman also explained that his spectacular debut at the Italian Grand Prix is now behind him and that he is focused on what will come next year.
“The weekend itself was fantastic and it went by so quickly. It was a dream come true and we finished it in the best possible way. What happens next, I can’t imagine.”
“On Monday afternoon I came back to reality quite quickly. Now I’m thinking about the future. But all the messages and congratulations I received were very important. It’s nice to have everyone’s support,” concluded Nyck De Vries.
