In recent months, social networks have become the preferred platform of the General Directorate of Traffic to warn of the dangers in driving and inform about the regulations that are in force. This week the DGT alluded to the most frequent fine in the summer months : manually using GPS navigators. It is strictly forbidden to operate this type of device while driving as it reduces attention, in the same way as a mobile phone.

It is a serious offense, which carries a financial penalty of 200 euros and the loss of three points of the driver’s license . According to another publication in social networks of the General Directorate of Traffic, it is something very common among drivers, especially in summer, when they go on vacation and have to use GPS to reach their destination.

However, it is important to clarify that the DGT in no case prohibits the use of browsers in the car . What is not allowed is to handle them while driving because both hands are no longer on the wheel and the view goes from being on the road to the screen.
The solution? If the driver is traveling alone and has to enter any type of indication into the GPS, stop at a rest area to do so. It is also possible to purchase a voice-controlled GPS .
The most common sanctions in the summer months
On June 1, 2021, the new ITV regulations came into force, and the new fines are as follows:
- Expired: 200 euros.
- Unfavorable: 200 euros.
- Negative: 500 euros.
Talking on the phone without the hands-free has become the most common offense in recent years. The DGT has tightened the rule, and now carries a penalty of 200 euros and the loss of three points of the card.
In beach areas, the fine for driving with flip flops is very frequent. It is not the best shoe for driving because it can get tangled with the pedals and has almost no support. Driving without a shirt is also not allowed because, in the event of any braking or impact, the seat belt can cause serious burns and abrasions on the chest.
And finally, it should be noted that drinking or eating at the wheel can be interpreted as a distraction and be subject to sanction. The fine is 200 euros and the loss of two points of the driving license.
