Anyone who buys clothing online has a right of withdrawal. Means: You can return the goods to the dealer. Does this also apply to bras, panties or bikinis?

Potsdam – pants, sweater, lace bra and a chic bikini for the summer vacation: With just a few clicks, the goods can be placed in the virtual shopping basket before they are delivered to your home.

When customers order goods online, they have a right of withdrawal. This continues even after trying it on, explains the consumer advice center in Brandenburg. Even if customers try on underwear or swimwear, this right does not expire.

What buyers and sellers can expect

This means that sellers cannot simply refuse to return underwear or swimwear ordered online for reasons of hygiene. After all, customers can also take such goods with them to the changing room in the store and try them on.

However, the consumer advice center advises customers not to remove extra protective films for laundry. And the seller can expect customers to treat the goods carefully and not cause any signs of use.

When the law reaches its limits

If the seller refuses to accept the revocation, the consumer advocates recommend revocation in writing and pointing out the applicable legal situation.

With a few exceptions, however, the hygiene argument counts. For example, with cosmetic products such as lipstick, mascara or roll-on deodorant, but also with erotic toys, contact lenses or toothbrushes. If a customer breaks the hygiene seal here – for example opens the package – the right of withdrawal expires. dpa
