Signs and wonders are still happening: Unlike John Lennon, Donald Trump does not claim to be “more popular than Jesus”.

Washington, DC – It borders on a miracle. And yet it’s true. Donald Trump is just number two. Officially even, he confirmed it himself. “Jesus is the greatest. President @realDonaldTrump is the second greatest,” a user of the Truth Social platform has now written. And Donald Trump personally endorsed that statement with a replay of this post, called a “ReTruth.”

Admitting that he’s only “second” to someone may well be a remarkable example of the former US President’s rare humility, who normally only takes first place. But with Jesus, Trump, who otherwise lets his anger run wild on Truth Social, makes an exception. Is that a new modesty?

Donald Trump is content with second place behind Jesus

In August 2019, Trump appeared in a completely different way. When it came to trade with China, Trump was in his element. “I am the chosen one,” he said succinctly at the time. In those days, he also shared tweets celebrating him as “the return of the Lord.”

But times have changed. In fact, just a little over a year later, Trump was unusually meek. In October 2020, the Independent reported on a conversation that Trump claims to have had with his supporters in North Carolina. When someone claimed he was the most famous person in the world, Trump reluctantly suggested that Jesus Christ is actually a little better known than himself.

Donald Trump is different from John Lennon when it comes to Jesus

John Lennon was different. In March 1966, he caused a real scandal with his statement that the Beatles were “more popular than Jesus”. The excitement was great, especially in the USA. Fundamentalist believers and members of the Ku Klux Klan agitated against the Beatles, their records were publicly burned, their songs no longer played on the radio. No wonder, then, that Donald Trump is satisfied with the role of number two. He just knows his limits. (cs)
