Donald Trump Jr. embarrasses himself – Texas joke backfires in Dallas

Imagine making a joke during a speech and nobody is laughing. Now you know how Donald Tump Jr. might have felt recently.

Dallas – The event was a like-minded party. Loyal fans, family members and Donald Trump himself were in attendance. The former president reiterated his baseless accusations against the 2020 US election at the CPAC conference. The crowd thanked him with frenetic cheers. An opinion poll of those present on who the Republicans should nominate for the next election in 2024, Donald Trump – unsurprisingly – won very clearly.

Then came his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr. The former president’s filius has been looking for a job for a long time. He was the managing director of the Trump Organization, the family company that is being charged with tax fraud and falsification of accounts in New York. Then he flirted with the chairmanship of the NRA, the powerful gun lobby in the USA, because Donald Trump Jr. loves guns and hunting like only his brother Eric Trump usually does. According to the US media, the 43-year-old was also temporarily aiming for a political career. On the side, Junior also seems to try his hand at influencing social media, where he regularly broadcasts videos that sometimes trigger laughter, sometimes serious concern about his health.

Donald Trump Jr. makes a fool of himself at CPAC conference

But nothing has come of this so far. Donald Trump Jr. has not yet found a clear role for himself in the time after his father’s presidency. As long as that is the case, he seconded Donald Sr. with speeches at numerous events. Among other things, he spoke in Washington DC on January 6, just before a mob stormed the Capitol there. He also spoke at the CPAC conference in Dallas.

First, Donald Trump Jr. celebrated Texas, which has been firmly in the hands of Republicans in all presidential elections for 40 years. He was sure to pull the audience in the third largest city in the state to his side. But then the native New Yorker tried his hand at subtle jokes. That failed completely.

Donald Trump Jr. alludes to an argument in Austin

“Texas has always led the indictment,” said Donald Trump Jr., and continued, “Until a few months ago, then Austin took over. I don’t know people either. You are still in the top 25. We have to work on it, these people have lost their minds. ”An icy silence followed, broken only by individual calls. The big grin disappeared from Donald Trump Jrs face. Clearly unsettled, he asked the crowd: “Or?”

Donald Trump Jr. probably alluded to the resistance of the Democrats to the change of the electoral law in liberal Austin with the confused words. In the state capital of Texas, they have so far successfully blocked a bill that they believe would curtail minority voting rights. The broadside of a simmering conflict in Texas did not go down well with those present.

Or maybe Junior meant something completely different. It will probably remain his secret. (Daniel Dillmann)
