After the fiasco caused last season by the arrival of Valentino Rossi to the then Petronas team, the owner of the refounded Yamaha satellite team, now called RNF MotoGP Racing, the Malaysian Razlan Razali, lamented the lack of performance of the theoretical star rider of the formation, the veteran Andrea Dovizioso.
“To be honest, I didn’t expect him to have so many problems considering he did five races and tests last year. I thought with his experience he would know how to adapt to the M1. I think he has to take a step back, not be too analytical and limit himself. to ride the bike, trying to get the most out of it, instead of thinking about what doesn’t work. That’s the bike there is,” Razali said in an interview on GPone.com .
Dovizioso reiterates in each of his appearances before the media that the current Yamaha is a complicated bike and that it is only competitive in the hands of Fabio Quartararo.
“I find similarities between him and Valentino Rossi last year, they both not only want to be riders but also engineers and they forget to be riders and to ride the bike as it is,” says the Malaysian executive.
In its MotoGP debut, Petronas opted for a young rider policy (Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli), becoming a kind of platform to train riders for Yamaha, a path that was diverted last year when they were forced to relocate Rossi after the dismissal of the official Yamaha team, which put Quartararo in his place.
“The philosophy of having young guys is the right one, because they don’t have references and they just ride, that’s the difference between a rookie and an experienced rider. Vale and Dovi are very analytical, very sensitive, but they forget to drive the bike.” , he lamented.
For weeks, there has been talk of a divorce between Yamaha and RNF at the end of the year, and that Razali is trying to team up with Aprilia to become Noale’s house satellite team.
Rumors have been around since the beginning of the year and now Suzuki’s decision has extended them. It is true that we only have one year left on our contract with Yamaha, but we have time to assess the situation. We have other options, and they are good, but we are waiting. The possibility of changing manufacturers is great but it is a decision that I would not like to make,” he said.
“What I would like is to have with Yamaha a relationship like the one that Hervé Poncharal had for more than 20 years, or Lucio Cecchinello with Honda. In this way, you compete with the factory, win and lose together. As a team we have to build our credibility , commercial relations, fans, and you can’t do it if you constantly change manufacturers. Logically I am forced to look at all the options since I only have this year left on my contract with Yamaha”, resigned the Malaysian, who knows perfectly well that the Breakup is a very real possibility.
