Dozens injured in Tokyo earthquake

A woman fell and injured her head when a train stopped abruptly because of the quake, Japanese media reported. The Meteorological Authority downgraded the strength of the vibration on Friday to 5.9 from 6.1 previously reported. There was no danger of a tsunami, it said.

As a result of the quake, the operation of some high-speed trains and subways was temporarily impaired. There have been reports of burst water pipes. The quake rocked homes in Tokyo and surrounding areas. The quake occurred in Tokyo’s neighboring province of Chiba at a depth of 75 kilometers, as the meteorological authority announced.
