Düsseldorf – Several civilian police cars stop in front of an inconspicuous shop for cell phone accessories in downtown Düsseldorf. Masked officers jump out and begin securing possible evidence.

Police raided organized drug trafficking in several cities in North Rhine-Westphalia on Thursday.

Operations were not only in Düsseldorf, but also in Meerbusch, Kaarst, Neuss, Hürth and Gelsenkirchen, said the Düsseldorf police. A total of 21 objects were searched. A 29-year-old was arrested in Düsseldorf against whom an arrest warrant had been issued.

The police operation also had the goal of executing property arrests amounting to around 1.5 million euros and securing evidence. It is about drug trafficking with marijuana and cocaine, money laundering and fraud, said spokesmen for police and prosecutors.

Special forces were in action during the raid. The background to the large-scale operation is a procedure by the Central Office for the Prosecution of Organized Crimes in North Rhine-Westphalia (ZeOS). The investigators want to present further details of the procedure this Friday at a press conference in Düsseldorf. dpa
