Ducati makes Miller's renewal effective for 2022

Unlike Pecco Bagnaia , who in this 2021 promoted to the official team with him from Pramac , and whose agreement already contemplated two seasons, the Borgo Panigale brand only committed to the Townsville one for one exercise, but left open an option of extension with a view to 2022. In a case very similar to the one that Danilo Petrucci starred in two years ago, Jack Miller had to show that he deserved an extension of his contract.

Despite having started his career as a rider in the official structure on the wrong foot – he accumulated only 14 points in the first three grand prix – the #43 turned the situation around brilliantly, winning consecutively in the last two calendar stops. In fact, the ‘aussie’ rider is, along with Fabio Quartararo , the only member of the grid who has been able to add more than one win.

With these two victories, Miller will appear this weekend at Mugello with the best momentum, and as one of the main candidates to win a race won by Ducati in the last three editions held. At the gates of what will be the sixth round of the year, ‘Thriller’ occupies fourth position in the general table, 16 points behind the leader (Quartararo).

In his seventh season in the heavy bike category, Miller has won three races – one with Honda, in 2016, and the last two with the Bologna -based manufacturer – and has stood on the podium 12 times.

Ducati risked it in 2020 by carrying out a total renovation of its pair of pilots, especially by releasing Andrea Dovizioso , who had played the role of spearhead of the company during the last five years, in which he was proclaimed runner-up three times (2017, 2018 and 2019). Instead, the executives of the manufacturer of the red bikes promoted a generational change by betting on two youngsters like Miller (26 years old) and Bagnaia (24), who is currently second in the general classification, just one point away from the Devil .

“I am really happy to be able to continue my adventure with Ducati for one more season,” explains Miller in the team statement.

“Wearing these colors is truly an honor and having achieved these last two victories with the Desmosedici GP has been a dream come true. It would not have been possible without the great support that I have always received from Ducati and the entire team during these months and I want to thank Gigi, Paolo, Davide and Claudio for the trust they have always placed in me”, referring to Dall’Igna, Ciabatti, Tardozzi and Domenicali. “Now it’s time to focus exclusively on this season: I’m fourth in the standings, not too far from first and the championship is still a long way off. I will give everything to continue this positive trend and try to fight for the title”, the Australian sets himself the goal.
