Drug crime is a huge problem in the Netherlands. Now the police have arrested ten suspects there in a raid.

Bergeijk – Investigators in the Netherlands have unearthed an international drug gang. Ten people had been arrested, the police said on Tuesday in Bergeijk in the south-east of the country.

The action was directed mainly in the border area with Belgium against the production of and the trade in synthetic drugs. The main suspect is a 32-year-old man. More arrests are expected, the police said.

The police action started early in the morning. Around 250 Dutch officials and around 25 investigators from Belgium had searched 25 objects in several locations – including Eindhoven, Utrecht and Bergeijk. According to the police, the access is part of a large investigation into a drug gang. In doing so, they are working closely with Germany and Belgium.

In the course of the investigation, several drug laboratories in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany had already been excavated since May 2020. In Germany it was reportedly about production facilities in Ruppach and Kassel. The investigators had found the gang through the evaluation of special messenger services. dpa
