Jakarta – Eleven students drowned on a school trip to the great outdoors in the Indonesian province of West Java. The students between the ages of 12 and 15 had tried to cross a river, a spokesman said. They were swept away by the current.

Several teachers were injured while trying to save their students. "Search parties later discovered the victims downstream," said the spokesman. A total of around 150 students set out on the excursion in the Ciamis district. dpa
