Kozlowski’s book is subtitled ’13 Rules of Life from Britain’s Longest-Reigning Monarch*’. One of them was apparently the regent’s request to her fiancé Philip to give up smoking. As the author reports, the young monarch was not bothered by the smell of the blue haze, the reason was deeper. Her beloved father, King George VI. (56, † 1952) died of lung cancer after a long illness. He is said to have been a heavy chain smoker for years. Even today, the regent commemorates the events surrounding the anniversary of his death* every year in Sandringham.
