Employees are happier if they can telecommute from the second home

According to a Hays survey, 60% of workers cannot telecommute from anywhere other than their usual residence, something in high demand in the summer months. But the truth is that a large part of employees are happier if they can telecommute from the second residence.

It is clear that the expansion of teleworking due to the Covid-19 pandemic has allowed many workers to change locations during this time . However, in summer there are many who want to take advantage of the good weather to perform their functions from another destination outside the city on a temporary basis.

Well, this survey establishes that seven out of ten employees say that they would be happier if they could telecommute from their second residence.

Of the remaining 30%, 20% of those surveyed indicate that they are indifferent, while 10% confirm that it would not make them any happier. As we have pointed out, 60% of workers are not allowed to do their tasks from another location other than their habitual residence, either because they cannot telework themselves or because they are not allowed to do it from another place.

Salvador Sicart, director of HAYS Response in Spain, points out that “productivity and happiness are two very difficult concepts to marry and, as much as workers are happier teleworking from their second homes, this can compromise their level of productivity.”

Back to normal?

Regarding the return to normality, when the covid-19 pandemic ends, 24% of employees anticipate that they will return to full presence and abandon teleworking . On the other hand, 3% believe that they will perform their functions remotely 100%.

And, the largest group, is that of those who assure that they will have a hybrid work model. This means that 64% will be obliged to go to the office on some days , while 10% will be free to telecommute or go in person without any obligation.

Dese Hays specify that companies are now opting for a more flexible work model. Candidates are what they want and, when faced with two identical job offers – one with a hybrid model and the other with face-to-face – they will always opt for the former.

Although with vaccination it was expected to return to the presence, the increase in infections has slowed this idea, and teleworking and these hybrid models have continued, which seem that, for the moment, they are going to stay.
