Enea Bastianini: "It's going to be a tough race, but I'm ready"

Gresini Racing has been one of the many teams affected due to the material delay that has forced the championship to suspend Friday’s free practice session. Instead, MotoGP will share free practice on Saturday with qualifying.

This has truncated the plans of many of the drivers in the premier class, since, for the first time in the history of the championship, they do not have their prototypes. The current leader of the championship, Enea Bastianini, is one of the drivers who has an empty box.

“At the moment we have nothing,” Enea introduced during the press conference for the Argentine Grand Prix. “Hopefully it will all come together tomorrow. It’s going to be tough for the mechanics, but I hope that on Saturday everything will be up and running.”

Consequently, Gresini Racing will not have time to evaluate and configure its Ducati 100% on the Argentine track. Given this situation, Enea assures that the important thing in Argentina “is to make the best decisions as best as possible.”

After a difficult race in Mandalika, the Italian assured that “he has learned a lot from his first race in the wet”.

“The first part was a disaster, but I was gaining confidence and making up ground for the group ahead”, Enea recalls. “In the end I felt quick and satisfied with the race, but not with the results.”

Bastianini begins his weekend at Termas de Río Hondo, a new opportunity to defend the 2022 lead.

“At the moment I am delighted to lead the championship, but this is a long world championship and now we have to face the race in Argentina. My goal is to be among the top five positions.”

“I don’t have to think about the future beyond that. The important thing is to fully understand the potential of the bike. This one is incredible compared to GP19.”

“I think we can be fast here. It’s the first time I’ve raced in MotoGP and I think it’s going to be a tough race, but I’m ready.”

“For me this bike can be fast on this track. Also, I think the grip will not be perfect like in Mandalika or Qatar, but I like this situation. I have to stay focused, especially on Saturday, because it will be a very long. It’s important to be fast in qualifying,” he insisted.

Regarding the new design of the Red Bull Ring, the Gresini Racing driver indicates that for him, the circuit is currently “more adapted to F1”.

“I saw yesterday that there was a new chicane. It is strange to see it like this, but we will have to try it. Now, for me, the straight is very short. But we will see the first laps, they will be difficult,” he said.

Regarding a possible format change in the future, Enea was confused. “It could be different, but for me it will be more or less the same… in any case, we’ll see it this Saturday,” he said.
