In order to save energy, cities have also taken certain measures. Dortmund relies on a new technique – and changes a rhythm. Find out more here:

Dortmund – In times of the energy crisis, not only consumers are required to save electricity and gas. The city of Dortmund also stopped lighting buildings, such as the Dortmund U-Tower or the Natural History Museum, in September in order to reduce energy consumption. As RUHR24 knows, unlike other cities, Dortmund’s city center should not disappear in the dark at night.

According to DEW21, of the approximately 52,000 street lamps that illuminate Dortmund at night, a total of 22,000 were converted to a digital lighting system as part of a project worth millions. In districts such as Huckarde, Hombruch or Aplerbeck, new, smart LED lamps have been installed in place of the old halogens since 2017.
