Esther Bejarano is dead. She died “peacefully and quietly” at the age of 96.
Frankfurt – Esther Bejarano died on Saturday night (July 10th, 2021). This was announced by Meron Mendel, director of the Anne Frank educational facility, on Saturday morning. Bejarano was 96 years old.

Shortly after the news became known, the sympathy in social networks is very high. Bejarano was considered an important contemporary witness of the Holocaust. For years she was involved in the association of those persecuted by the Nazi regime and was active in the International Auschwitz Committee until her death. The committee confirmed Bejarano’s death to the news magazine Hinz & Kunzt on Saturday morning. Accordingly, after a short, serious illness, she “fell asleep peacefully”.
Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas (SPD) praised her as an “important voice in the fight against racism and anti-Semitism”.
“The wonderful Esther Bejarano convinced with her vitality and unbelievable story,” wrote Maas on Twitter. “We will miss your voice.” Annalena Baerbock * also commented on Twitter: “Your voice had weight and it will be missing.”
