Evacuated from Afghanistan: family reports a dramatic journey home

Samsama and Noor Mohammad Khoja from Fulda and their children are among the first evacuees to be flown out of Afghanistan. But before that happened, the family lived through anxious hours.

Fulda / Kabul – There is no getting ahead at Kabul Airport. Hundreds of people who want to leave the country crowd in front of a cordon. Armed Americans are at the very front, shooting in the air, not letting anyone through. The Khoja family from Fulda * is also in the middle of the crowd. You flew to Afghanistan four weeks ago to attend a relative's funeral. Actually, they wanted to stay until August 28th. But after the Taliban took the city so suddenly on Sunday, they are trying to leave as soon as possible. As a German, it is too dangerous to stay.
fuldaerzeitung.de * tells the Khoja family the story of their journey home and the dramatic scenes in Kabul.

It’s going to be good. The family made it into the Bundeswehr machine and landed in Frankfurt on Wednesday morning. Now, two days later – at home in Fulda – you can breathe a sigh of relief. The apartment shows the two worlds in which the family lives: a wall with the skyline of New York and opposite a picture of the Koran and a tapestry with the provinces of Afghanistan. * fuldaerzeitung.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
